I was making dinner, and my son came running in, “Come see!!! There’s a really cool mushroom or a beehive on the ground next to my plum tree. Come see!!!” So, I turned the burner on the stove to low and headed out to see his discovery. What a cool mushroom, indeed! Today is Michaelmas (or St. Michael’s Day). There are many meanings of this day. In medieval times it was a harvest festival. Today it’s often a celebration of courage and transformation. I attended a lecture about the meaning of Michaelmas on Friday and the sentence that resonated with me most was… “Have the courage to be yourself.” (This is a photo of my 5 year old son in his Michaelmas attire. My uncle did some photoshop magic to put him against the scenic background. James dyed his silk cape with turmeric and marigolds. Additionally, he spent a month at school rasping and sanding his sword. He’s so proud.) Here’s to having the courage today (and always) to be yourself! This kid!!! ❤️ We went apple picking at @luckyyouorchards for the third year in a row. We enjoyed sampling their fresh pressed cider and picking their delicious organic apples. Clara chose her own apple picking outfit ❤️. An Apple Fairy 🧚‍♀️ in her native habitat! I look forward to finding photos from last year and the year before to see how much the kids have grown between visits. Three and Fabulous! ❤️😆 What’s bringing you joy today? What are you savoring? Sometimes it can be as simple as delighting in a beautiful color or a “sun spider.” I didn’t know what a sun spider was, but my daughter told me it’s when the sun makes patterns in the car that look like spiders. Savoring doesn’t have to be complex, in-depth, or time consuming. Find time every day to savor even the most seemingly mundane.
